Belle de Jour’s secret diary – of a loo cleaner

SCIENTIST Dr Brooke Magnanti caused a stir with her anonymous blog about her time supplementing her income by working as an expensive London escort.

It was turned into two best-selling books under the pen name Belle de Jour, as well as a hit ITV drama Secret Diary Of A Call Girl, starring Billie Piper.

Now, however, she’s revealed that she’s become a cleaner, earning $15 [£11] an hour, scrubbing lavatories in Airbnb rental properties after returning to her native America. ‘I think about those people who imagined I was too proud to scrub a toilet,’ says Magnanti, pictured with Piper.

‘[They claim] whore is worst, cleaner is second worst, and no one in their right minds would do either. Let alone both.’

Magnati, 45, admits her alter-ego made it hard for her to find work. ‘I am not fired for being outed as Belle de Jour, but I have never been hired for a science job again either. Do I regret having been a sex worker? No. I regret not having been a sex worker sooner.’

WHILE some are happy to avoid their in-laws, Pippa Middleton’s husband, James Matthews, is apparently so keen to see his that he’s bought a safari park a stone’s throw from their home in Berkshire. Hedge fund boss Matthews has snapped up the 72-acre Bucklebury Farm Park, which was on sale at £1.5 million. ‘It’s a business purchase,’ a friend tells me. He and two associates have created a new company, Bucklebury Farm Ltd. Pippa’s sister, the Duchess of Cambridge, enjoyed visiting the petting zoo with her children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
