CORMACK NEEDS TO FIND ANSWERS TO HIS MOUNTING PROBLEMS

-

POPCORN at the ready for Dave Cormack’s question-and-answer session with Aberdeen fans on YouTube on Tuesday night.

No question is off limits. And someone really should set the ball rolling by asking who strung the manager up on a meat hook last weekend? Before defeat to Hibs, a report on the BBC Scotland website suggested a run of one win in eight games had taken Derek McInnes ‘to the brink’.

There was an acceptance, ‘at the top’ that a change might have to be made if they lost at Easter Road. No one doubts that the unnamed source was impeccable.

When Aberdeen lost the game 2-0, rumours swept the Granite City of a McInnes departure. So much so that chairman

Cormack was forced to issue a public vote of confidence. Marched up to the top of the hill, supporters were marched back down again. The gun was cocked and no one took a shot.

A growing number of fans wish they’d pull the trigger. And Cormack knows it.

They don’t like the style of football. The recruitment has been a mixed bag. They’d like to win a few more big games against Celtic and Rangers and the odd trophy or two. Few, if any, take much notice of those grim warnings over Covid-19 and club finances. After raking in £6million from the sales of Scott McKenna, Sam Cosgrove and Scott Wright, McInnes spent deadline day scrambling around to get strikers in on loan.

This after a few deals were KO’d earlier in the window.

It still wouldn’t take a huge swing in fortunes to pip Hibs for third.

The real problem is that the fans are bored. Most supporters treat managers like their car these days. After a few years, they fancy a newer, shinier model on the driveway. The problem for Dave Cormack is clear. His relationship with the manager might be fraying at the edges. But when Sunderland and Rangers came calling, Derek McInnes was offered some hefty financial incentives to stay put.

And when he goes, Aberdeen are on the hook for every penny. Maybe the Deep Throat of Pittodrie should have taken that into account before he set a hare running last weekend.
