Edouard a target for Roma and Rodgers

- By STEPHEN McGOWAN

SERIE A giants Roma are poised to go head-to-head with Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester for the signature of Odsonne Edouard this summer. Arsenal and Aston Villa are also considering moves for the £20million striker if the price is right. Celtic slapped a prohibitive £40m valuation on his head last summer as they steeled themselves for their doomed ten-in-a-row quest. Before quitting as boss, Neil Lennon conceded the Frenchman had ‘issues’ when he felt he was denied a move. Recently, however, he has returned to form by claiming 11 goals in his last 13 games and 20 in total over the

course of this season. Heading into the final year of his contract, he has shown no inclination to sign an extension and is widely expected to leave at the end of the season as part of a significant restructuring of the club’s football operations. Roma want to replace 34-year-old Edin Dzeko this summer and general director Tiago Pinto sees the unsettled star as a potential replacement. Rodgers signed Edouard for Celtic for £9m and has placed him and Brentford’s Ivan Toney — a former Parkhead target — at the top of his list. Arsenal could also move if they sell Alexandre Lacazette or Eddie Nketiah in the next window. With Paris Saint-Germain due a huge percentage of any future profit, Celtic will look to bump up the sale price as high as possible. Meanwhile, Airdrie playmaker Thomas Robert, son of ex-Newcastle star Laurent, has begun a training stint with Celtic ahead of a potential summer move.
