ENGLAND’S ARROGANT PLAYERS WERE JUST AS LOUSY AS THE REF

- By ROB ROBERTSON

GLASGOW Warriors fly-half Adam Hastings looks set to miss Scotland’s Six Nations matches against Ireland and Italy after being red-carded against Leinster. Hastings, who would have been understudy to Finn Russell in both games, was sent off after unintentionally booting Cian Kelleher in the face as he lost his balance on landing after going up for a high ball. He fell backwards and, when his foot came up, it connected with the Leinster winger’s head. After watching the incident back referee Frank Murphy ordered him off. Hastings will be lucky to get away with anything less than a three-week ban, which would rule him out of the two remaining Six Nations fixtures. Warriors head coach Danny Wilson said there was no intent from Hastings but admitted poor discipline — including Hastings’ red and the yellow cards shown to Cole Forbes and T J Ioane — contributed to the defeat. ‘Adam lost his balance and kicked out to make sure he didn’t land awkwardly,’ said Wilson. ‘By the law it’s a red card I suppose but there is no intent. I was frustrated at our defence in that first half, we handed them tries.’ Leinster’s scores in the first 40 minutes came from Harry Byrne and two from Scott Penny. They were also awarded a penalty try when Forbes, who was sin-binned for a dangerous challenge, denied Kelleher a try scoring opportunity when he took him out in the air near the Glasgow try line. Glasgow’s only reply in the first half came from a Thomas Gordon touchdown after great work from Huw Jones. Warriors hit back through tries from Rufus McLean and Jones but Ioane’s yellow card for dangerous play at the ruck ended their fightback and ensured they finished the game with 13 men. Luke McGrath scored in the corner to make the game safe and Kelleher went over three minutes from time for the home side’s sixth and final try.

Leinster: Tries: H Byrne 2, Penny 2, L McGrath, C Kelleher. Cons: H Byrne 2, Hawkshaw 2.

Glasgow: Tries: Gordon, McLean, H Jones. Cons: Hastings, Thompson 2.
