PICK OF THE DAY

THE REPAIR SHOP, 4.30PM, BBC1

-

THIS cosy show returns for a new series that continues every weekday. Its delights are threefold — the insights you get into people’s lives through their tales of damaged family heirlooms, the care taken by Jay Blades and the team in restoring these treasures, and the delight their work creates when handed back. Among the heirlooms today is a model ship of matchsticks brought in by Lesley Stockford (pictured with restorer Will Kirk), which was made by her dad, who died when she was seven. Also brought into the barn are a machinist’s chair owned by Tara’s grandmother, who died in the year Tara was born, and a statue of the HMV record shop dog.
