For little Evie life’s a beach -- full of litter

-

ALMOST every day, my sevenyear-old granddaughter evie goes litter picking with her Mum and friends on the beach near where we live. She started during the first lockdown. Unfortunately, the most common type of rubbish left behind is dog poo bags. During sunny weather, there were so many beer bottles and cans left in the dunes that the litter pickers filled nine bin bags in six days. They have found burnt bottles, which left shards of glass sticking out of the sand. Other nasty things they have had to deal with include face masks, used nappies, disposable barbecues, takeaway containers and lots of crisp bags and sweet wrappers. I am so proud that evie has been nominated for a community award for her litterpicking efforts. It’s such a shame that a little girl has to clean up after disgusting adults who obviously don’t care about this beautiful area. Mrs JANET MILES, Newquay, Cornwall.
