Pars take pole for play-offs

-

CRAIG WIGHTON’S header saw Dunfermline move into second place in the Championship with a 1-0 win over Morton at East End Park. The on-loan Hearts striker saw a first-half penalty — and the rebound — brilliantly saved by Aidan McAdams. But Wighton regained his composure to score the 44th-minute goal which saw the Pars leapfrog Raith Rovers — following their 0-0 draw in Inverness on Friday night — and move second. Stevie Crawford’s men remain 15 points behind Hearts but with two games in hand. Game of the day was a fivegoal thriller at Palmerston as bottom side Alloa launched their bid for survival with a 3-2 win over nine-man Queen of the South. Peter Grant’s Wasps twice had to come from behind, Innes Murray cancelling out Dapo Mebude’s opener and Lee Connolly doing likewise just before the interval after Euan East had put Queens back in front. The hosts were then reduced to ten men when Ayo Obileye saw a straight red for a mistimed challenge on Raymond Grant. Alloa could have gone in front after Willie Gibson’s hand ball, only for Andy Graham’s spot-kick to be saved by Rohan Ferguson. But sub Liam Buchanan scored a dramatic winner 13 minutes from time. Rhys McCabe was then sent off for lashing out at Murray, while Palmerston boss Allan Johnston was sent to the stand at the same time on a day of misery for Queen of the South. Alloa are now just four points behind Arbroath, Ayr and Inverness.
