Well I never, a walrus in Wales

-

Resting on the rocks, this walrus is a sight you might expect to see around the icy shores of the Arctic.

But this creature probably required a longer rest than usual – having been spotted off the Welsh coast, thousands of miles from home. the visitor was first seen on the rocks in County Kerry, ireland, last week. But, since then, it has made the crossing to Pembrokeshire – in what is an extremely rare sighting in British waters.

the RsPCA was called out to Broad Haven south to check on the animal’s welfare. it was said to be ‘fine’ and later returned to the sea.

it is believed this is only the second time in the charity’s history it’s had to deal with a walrus. geoff edmond, of the RsPCA, said it was a ‘landmark day’.
