FIVE THINGS WE LEARNED FROM THE SPFL THIS WEEKEND

- By CALUM McCLURKIN

CELTIC SWITCH OFF AT KEY MOMENT

ONE goal up and in full control on derby day, Celtic lost concentration and conceded from a set-play. It’s been a symptom of their season. Interim manager John Kennedy can take heart in how his side largely dominated, particularly in the first half, but a slackness at the back proved costly and Scott Bain’s lapse almost gifted Rangers all three points.

IT’S ABSOLUTE PERFECTION IN PERTH

A 1-0 VICTORY over Ross County clinched an eighth top-six finish in the last ten years for St Johnstone. That’s a phenomenally consistent record only matched by Aberdeen and topped by Celtic. Callum Davidson’s men are Betfred Cup holders, have won the Scottish Cup and sampled some European occasions in what’s been a decade to truly savour.

DOIG A DELIGHTFUL FIND FOR HIBS

JOSH DOIG has been one of the revelations of the season and the young left-back impressed yet again for Hibs in the 1-1 draw at Livingston. The 18-year-old (right) is equally comfortable at wing-back and can attack and defend. It is little surprise big clubs are monitoring his progress.

DONS ARE DRAINED OF CONFIDENCE

THE winless and goalless run continued for Aberdeen in their 1-0 defeat to Dundee United on Saturday. The Dons are lacking in belief and are now closer to Livingston in fifth than Hibernian in third. Missing out on a European slot is a concern for the Pittodrie side and they must start scoring goals to arrest the slide of one win and goal in ten games.

KILLIE BANKING ON EXPERIENCED DUO

KILMARNOCK savoured their first win in 11 games after a 4-1 success over Motherwell. Now Tommy Wright’s side will look to use this result as a platform for survival. The experience of seasoned veterans Kyle Lafferty and Chris Burke, who both scored against the Steelmen, will be critical in helping the Rugby Park club beat the drop this season as the split fixtures loom large.
