Still a Good Life in the bedroom for Felicity, 74

- By Emma Powell Showbusiness Correspondent

AT 74, she is determined to prove it is possible to have a good life in every way. Felicity Kendal has dismissed the notion that ageing means giving up on sex – and revealed that not remarrying has been liberating.

Miss Kendal, who played Barbara Good in 70s sitcom The Good Life, told Saga magazine: ‘Life gets better with age. You are more at ease with yourself. It’s the lack of years we have left that I resent. Physicality is so important – not being able to physically touch people is a deprivation, as we’ve discovered during the pandemic.

‘I don’t think things change because you are older. It’s a couples thing, not an age thing. I know from various couples my age in my circle that sex is as important to them as it always was. But if it ceases to be, that’s also fine.’

Miss Kendal lives with her ex-husband, theatre director Michael Rudman, 82. They were married from 1 83 to 1 0, then rekindled their romance in 1 8.

The actress, who has sons Jacob, 34, with Rudman, and Charley, 48, from her first marriage, said she considered marrying Rudman for a second time but thought, ‘let’s stick to what we’ve got... security makes me panic’.

Rudman spent two weeks in intensive care in October with Covid-1 . Miss Kendal, who had very mild symptoms, said it was ‘such a scary time’.
