Veggie cafe charging 10p extra for cow’s milk in your coffee

- Daily Mail Reporter

A CAFE has started charging customers extra for having cow’s milk in their cuppas instead of vegan alternatives.

Abbey Road Coffee adds an extra 10p for those who want dairy rather than oat or almond milk. Owner Tom Floyd – who is vegan – said he wanted to make customers think about their dietary choices and the planet. The cafe, in Malvern, Worcestershire, ditched meat in 2018 and became vegetarian.

Mr Floyd make the change despite vegan milk costing more than cow’s milk.

Some customers agreed with the policy. Jessica said she is ‘not vegan but personally happy to see this change’ as ‘vegan milks are actually a great swap’.

Another said it was ‘nice to see the reverse happening for once’ as plantbased milks are usually more expensive. At Starbucks, opting for coconut, oat or almond milk will cost you an extra 40p.

But some criticised the move. Emmanual Fahngon said: ‘As someone who is on a path to a plant-based diet for health, environment and animals, I don’t agree. People should have a choice, not stick out like a sore thumb for choosing dairy.’
