Camping champ Max, 11, raises £500k
THE schoolboy who slept in a tent for a year has spent his last night under canvas – after raising almost £500,000.
Max Woosey, 11, began camping in his garden on March 27 last year in memory of his friend and neighbour Rick Abbott, who died in February 2019.
For one final fundraising push, he hosted ‘Max’s Big Camp Out’, an event that encouraged children from all around the globe to take part.
Max, from Braunton, Devon, has been raising money for North Devon Hospice, who cared for Mr Abbott in his final days.
His neighbour, who was 74, had given Max a tent and told him to have an adventure with it. Max’s mother Rachael said: ‘I have to stop and pinch myself to take in just how big this has become.’
Her son has received support from his own two heroes, adventurer Bear Grylls and rugby legend Jonny Wilkinson.
