Farage turns eco-warrior for green job

-

FoRMER Ukip leader Nigel Farage has become an adviser to a climate-change firm in the Netherlands as he remodels himself as an environmental businessman.

The former MEP was hired by Dutch Green Business (DGB) yesterday – his first independent commercial role since he stepped back from politics last year.

He is the first member of the advisory board at DGB, an investor focused on securing land and planting trees. It makes money from firms that pay it to offset their carbon dioxide emissions.

The 56-year-old Brexiteer’s role on the board of a European company will raise eyebrows in the City and at westminster.

In 2013 he said: ‘we may have made one of the... most stupid mistakes in history by getting so worried about global warming.’

Two years later Ukip vowed to repeal the Climate Change Act and Farage admitted he didn’t ‘have a clue’ about climate change.

Yesterday, he said: ‘I am very excited to be joining DGB, who are on a mission to save our forests, plant millions of trees and harness the carbon offset market.’

DGB praised ‘his unique abilities to communicate relevant ideas to a global audience’.
