What should South bid?

This is an ideal moment for the use of an ‘Unusual No Trump’ bid of 2NT, which asks partner to show his preference between the two unbid suits, clubs and hearts.

This convention is more commonly used when hoping to discover a cheap ‘sacrifice’ contract. When the opponents have been bidding in two suits, it asks for a choice between the remaining two. When they have been bidding in a major only (1♥-2♥) it asks partner to show his better minor.

in the case above, you have no defensive ambitions, but want to get into your own best fitting trump suit, for which you can use the ‘Unusual No Trump’ just as effectively.
