‘Cult’ of nationalism

-

I vOTeD by post weeks ago. As we wait for the result, I am not naturally a pessimist but there can be no doubt, surely, that the SnP will win. Sleaze, scandals, and mind-boggling incompetence, it would seem, matter little to the majority of nationalist supporters.

After 14 years where even primary school children were utilised to spread the word by the converted, it was of course close to inevitable. nationalism in Scotland has taken on an almost cult status and at times borders on leader-worship. If that does not worry the people of this country, it should.

Whatever transpires, thankfully, there remains an equally hard core of Scots, not taken in and not browbeaten by the nationalists, who will continue to argue and fight for the retention of the UK; who will not leader-worship nor accept fantasy arguments. This group are the very backbone of Scotland and epitomise what it means to be both a proud Scot and Brit.
