-

CALUM HILL and Richie Ramsay made encouraging starts at the Canary Islands Championship in Tenerife yesterday to sit three shots behind first-round leader Francesco Laporta. Aberdonian Ramsay went bogey-free in recording his 65 while Hill carded two bogeys and an eagle on the way to the same score.

Italian Laporta looked on course for a special round when he sat nine under through his first 14 holes and admitted: ‘It was one of those days when everything goes in the right direction. I started thinking about 59 also. I wasn’t so lucky on the last hole, but I’m still nine under, so I’m pretty happy.’
