- By Andrew Levy

A 16-YEAR-OLD boy appeared in court yesterday accused of murdering a father of four outside his home as he celebrated his twin daughters’ second birthdays.

‘Good Samaritan’ James Gibbons, 34, died on Sunday after he went to help a homeless man, according to police.

The plumber is said to have been knifed. He died at the scene in Laindon, Essex. The defendant, who is from Essex but cannot be identified for legal reasons, spoke only to confirm his name, age and address at Chelmsford Magistrates Court yesterday. He did not enter a plea.

A preliminary hearing will be held at Chelmsford Crown Court on Monday. Mr

Gibbons, who had a fiancee, Victoria Billingham, was described by his relatives in a statement as a ‘family-oriented man’.

Friends called him a ‘good Samaritan’ for protecting the homeless man.

Essex Police initially arrested six people aged between 13 and 16. Three have since been released on bail, while two were told they face no further action.
