SCOTLAND’S STARS STRUT THEIR STUFF

- By ROB ROBERTSON

GLASGOW WARRIORS head coach Danny Wilson said the selection of Ali Price and Zander Fagerson for the Lions had given the whole club a boost. Fagerson made his 100th appearance for the Warriors in last night’s rainbow Cup tie against Edinburgh. ‘Having them selected gives the club a lift and Zander playing his 100th game for the club against Edinburgh makes it a special week for him,’ said the Glasgow head coach. Edinburgh head coach richard Cockerill also spoke of his pride after rory Sutherland, Hamish Watson and Duhan van der Merwe were picked for Warren Gatland’s squad. ‘rory Sutherland has come through the ranks at Edinburgh while Hamish Watson has been here a while and although both are injured and not playing against Glasgow, it is a great achievement for them to be picked for the Lions,’ said Cockerill. ‘Then you have Duhan van der Merwe who failed his medical when he joined the club and now he is a Lion, too. It is great for the club.’ Price, one of Scotland’s eight Lions, was given an early indication his new profile may make him a marked man when Mark Bennett caught him on the head with a high tackle. The incident was missed by referee Adam Jones but it was pointed out to him by Glasgow captain Fraser Brown, who made a captain’s challenge. under a new trial law a skipper can point out an incident of foul play he thought the ref had missed. After watching the incident on replay, Jones agreed with Brown and sent off Bennett but under yet another trial law Edinburgh were allowed to replace him twenty minutes later. Five minutes later Edinburgh called in their own challenge which led to Glasgow prop Oli Kebble being red-carded for elbowing Henry Pyrgos. under the new rules Glasgow were also allowed to replace him after twenty minutes. Three Lions — Fagerson, Price and Van der Merwe — took to the field in the derby. With Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend and Scotland defence coach Steve Tandy — both of whom will be assistants to Gatland — watching on it was a proud moment for the trio.
