Why I’m so hooked on fly-fishing

-

DISCUSSING a possible treatment for depression and anxiety, Dr Max Pemberton asks if there is anything more relaxing than fishing while sitting on a riverbank (Mail). Sitting gives lots of time to dwell on problems, while fly-fishing, which requires continuous mental and physical activity, is totally absorbing. I started coarse fishing as a five-year-old, moved onto fly-fishing as a teenager, used it as a stress-buster from the age of 26 and made it my living from my 50s. Now retired, I still enjoy fishing. My new book, FlyFishing For Business Wellbeing, describes how it helped me cope with a stressful career as a director of several companies. Fly-fishing kept me sane and it allowed me to relax. I highly recommend its benefits to those with troubled minds.
