Miracle kid Ollie revving up for glory

- By DANIEL MATTHEWS

A BRITISH teenager continues to defy doctors’ predictions as he chases his motocross world title dream despite a double leg break. Ollie Colmer was told he should give up off-road motorbike racing after he fractured his thigh bone twice in a matter of months in 2016, aged ten. Five years on, however, he is one of Europe’s hottest prospects and his hopes of turning professional are hurtling closer. Colmer, now 14, is from Northumbria and sponsored by the Daily Mail, but his dream looked to be in ruins five years ago. Within months he was back on his bike but disaster struck again as he snapped the same bone and needed a further operation.

Doctors warned him he should never ride again. Now, though, Colmer, who rides for the GRT Holeshot KTM team, boasts a string of national junior titles and later this year could ride at the World Championships. ‘Nothing’s going to put me off,’ he said. ‘Every time I get on the bike I get this buzz of happiness and freedom. ‘If I’m stressed with school work, I get on my bike and I feel free. ‘I want to work my way up until I’m the best in the world.’
