FASCINATING,
wasn’t it, that no fewer than nine MSPs vied for the post of Deputy Presiding Officer at Holyrood while no one had their hats in the ring for the top job? Deputies receive a whopping £30,000 on top of the £64,000 basic MSP salary. The Presiding Officer, public face of the parliament, trousers £19,000 more than that. The moral? Extra cash gratefully received. Extra responsibility not so much.
