Let there be light

-

AS voters in Scotland come to accept the result of last week’s election and the knowledge that we have years ahead of us of a daily drip-feed of Indyref 2, the opposition will continue to struggle and few will listen as we try to get on with our lives.

I believe one of the most effective ways of getting your point across is through humour.

The trouble is most politicians are a dour bunch, but some from the past prove my point. Dennis Skinner managed to make Maggie laugh, Gyles Brandreth was master of the put-down and there’s our own Annabel Goldie – each of them quickwitted and well remembered for it.

Holyrood is a comedy of errors anyway and I’m not suggesting we turn the serious business of politics into a sideshow, but people would listen more if they believed there might be a laugh coming.

Humour would make politicians more human and, yes, more likeable and surely some of them already have a wit about them that we never get to hear.

Somehow the opposition parties must get across the message about what Scotland is sleep-walking towards – time is running out.
