Kate keeps her pinkie promise to brave little Mila

Kate keeps dress vow as Mila wears tiara for her trip to the palace

THE Duchess of Cambridge has kept her promise to a little girl who wanted to meet a princess dressed in her favourite colour – pink.

Kate proved true to her word and when she invited five-year-old Mila Sneddon and her family to the Queen’s Edinburgh home yesterday, she wore an outfit in the pinkest of pinks that matched Mila’s own dress.

The outgoing girl, who is battling cancer, bonded with the royal when they spoke by phone last autumn.

Mila is undergoing chemotherapy for leukaemia and was movingly photographed separated from her father during the first lockdown.

He had to go to work and could not risk bringing coronavirus into the family home in Falkirk.

The image was among 100 selected for the duchess’s Hold Still lockdown photography exhibition and book and, as a result, Kate called Mila to congratulate her.

During their chat Mila told the duchess that she enjoyed walking the dog and likes the colour pink. ‘I’ll have to make sure I go and try to find a pink dress. One day, hopefully, Mila, we’ll get to meet and then I’ll remember to wear my pink dress for you,’ Kate promised her.

Yesterday, on the last day of her visit to Scotland with Prince William, the duchess made Mila’s dream come true

– and the brave youngster wasn’t fazed when she met the future Queen at the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

She even did a handstand and a cartwheel in front of her host as well as giving a twirl, showing off her own pink dress and tiara.

‘Hi Mila, look at you! I want to give

you a big squeezy cuddle, it’s so nice to meet you in person,’ Kate said.

‘I love your dress – can you do a little twirl? – and your shoes!’

Mila, who was accompanied by her father and mother, Scott and Lynda Sneddon, and big sister Jodi, was later asked about what she and the duchess spoke about. She replied: ‘Well, I was busy drawing a picture – a robot.’

But she said she liked Kate’s £450 ME+EM pink dress and said about the experience: ‘It was so good, I’ve never met a real princess in my life before.’

Kate gave the youngster a tiny trinket box inscribed with a message about bravery, while Mila gave her new friend a candle and a bag.

Mrs Sneddon said: ‘It’s a really surreal and bizarre experience, we’ve come out of lockdown and this is our first trip out which is really unusual.

‘It’s not quite sunk in that we’re here and we’ve met the duchess.’
