GOODNESS GRACIOUS GREAT BALL OF FIRE

- By John Paul Breslin

PAINTING the sky in burning hues of lava-like orange and yellow, you could be mistaken for thinking this was a close-up of the sun.

In fact, it is an image of the full Super Flower Moon as it lit up the heavens over Scotland on Wednesday. It dwarfed houses as it set over the mist of the Cathkin Braes near Glasgow, above.

Earlier, it had created a magical scene as it rose behind Edinburgh Castle.

May’s full moon will be the biggest and brightest of 2021, making it a supermoon. This month’s full moon name comes from the flowers that are blossoming in the spring, and originates from the Native Americans.

The May moon is also sometimes known as the Budding Moon, Planting

Moon, Egg Laying Moon, Frog Moon and the Moon of the Shedding Ponies.

The Flower Moon appeared 30 per cent brighter and 14 per cent bigger than usual.

Some parts of the world witnessed a lunar eclipse.
