No body found in Fred West dig

A POLICE dig for a suspected Fred West victim descended into farce yesterday after blue material thought to be her clothes turned out to be a pipe.

Officers were looking for evidence linked to Mary Bastholm in the cellar of the Clean Plate cafe in Gloucester, where the serial killer once worked.

The £70,000 dig started after police were tipped off by filmmakers about the blue material. But yesterday Gloucestershire Police said no human remains had been found.

Miss Bastholm was working at the cafe when she disappeared aged 15 in 1968. She was last seen in a blue dress and blue coat.

West, pictured, killed himself in 1995 while in jail charged with the murders of 12 women and girls.
