No option for Government
DOMINIC CUMMINGS thought he would get his pound of Boris’s flesh. In his seven hours of ‘evidence’ to the House of Commons committees, I spotted one sentence that exposed his bitterness towards Boris and laid bare his motive.
After a long tirade about the shortcomings of the Government in allegedly responding too slowly to the Covid outbreak and questioning Boris’s seeming lack of willingness to accept the advice of experts, he was asked why, as chief adviser, he didn’t tell the Prime Minister he was making a mistake.
His answer was: ‘Because I was worried that what if I was wrong?’
That spells out clearly the problem Boris and the Cabinet were facing. They had no option but to wait and see how the problem panned out.
