Top Scots cricketer suffers online abuse

- By ROB ROBERTSON

A TOP Scottish women cricketer has become the latest sportsperson to receive abuse on social media. Becky Glen was targeted after she was out for three ducks in four matches as Scotland lost their recent ODI series to Ireland 3-1. A series of abusive messages were sent to her Instagram account after the final game in Belfast. The 27-year-old from Edinburgh said: ‘Tough week, but won’t tolerate abuse of any kind.’ Cricket Scotland released a strongly worded statement in support of Glen (right), making clear they would take action against anybody abusing their players on social media. ‘It’s great to be back playing cricket and we love connecting with fellow fans of the game around the world, but we will not tolerate abuse or harassment directed at our players, staff, or opponents from our (social media) followers,’ said the Cricket Scotland statement. ‘We will pursue the strongest possible action against anyone engaging in this behaviour. Enough is enough.’
