RAITH’S DAVIDSON IS HANDED A FOUR-MATCH BAN

- By GEORGE GRANT

RAITH ROVERS defender Iain Davidson has been handed an immediate twomatch ban following a hearing into allegations of discriminatory comments made towards Inverness Caley Thistle forward Nikolay Todorov. Rovers announced Davidson had received a four-match suspension after a Scottish Football Association disciplinary tribunal, with two of those games suspended. He will also have to complete a FIFA e-learning course before being allowed to play again. The statement added: ‘The club has accepted the decision of the panel in full.’ Todorov was earlier cleared of the same charge of ‘excessive misconduct’ by the same tribunal. The charges stemmed from a Scottish Championship clash on March 16 which saw Davidson sent off after catching Todorov with an elbow. The 37-year-old was then shown a second red card by referee Colin Steven after he grabbed the throat of another Caley Thistle player as the visitors rushed to confront him. Davidson was given an automatic fivegame ban for the two red cards and the SFA then launched an investigation into claims he made discriminatory remarks. He was charged with excessive misconduct before the same charge was levelled against Bulgarian Todorov. Caley Thistle were ‘delighted’ with the outcome of Todorov’s case. A club statement read: ‘When Nikolay was first charged in April, the club committed to robustly defend Nikolay from the allegation as we believed his conduct on March 16 was entirely exemplary despite the extreme provocation, racist abuse and violence he was subjected to.’ Solicitor Aamer Anwar, who represented Todorov, revealed his client had also been accused of using language of a racist or discriminatory element.
