Spurs seek to bring back Pochettino

- By SAMI MOKBEL

TOTTENHAM have discussed the possibility of bringing Mauricio Pochettino back to the club — just 19 months after he was sacked. However, any move for the 49-year-old is likely to be complicated as his current club Paris Saint-Germain, have no plans to let him leave. It also emerged yesterday that the South American is high up on Real Madrid’s list to replace Zinedine Zidane. It means Pochettino will likely be required to resign from a job he has only had

for six months to take up the vacant Spurs post. But there are certain figures at Tottenham — who are also interested in former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte — that want the club to push for Pochettino’s return. Meanwhile, Ryan Mason is ready to become a full-time manager following his promising spell as interim head coach of Tottenham. The former Spurs midfielder enhanced his reputation as a coach with a bright future in the game during his short spell in charge after Jose Mourinho’s sacking — as Spurs won four of their six Premier League games under his leadership. And Sportsmail understands the 29-year-old is targeting a No1 job as he looks to take his first steps into senior management. Tottenham players were said to have been impressed by Mason’s coaching sessions during his spell in charge, which helped to galvanise a squad that was low in confidence. The fact he played for England and only retired in 2018 is also understood to have resonated with the players. Spurs will likely try to keep Mason — who came through the ranks at the club as a player — within their coaching set-up. But it is understood he would listen to offers regarding managerial jobs ahead of next season. His ability to deal with off-the-field issues is also known to have impressed many at Spurs. Mason was forced to deal with awkward questions about the club’s attempts to join a European Super League and Harry Kane’s requests to leave during the closing stages of the season. Mason has all the necessary coaching badges.
