Boyce insists Hearts have got the bit between their teeth after cup cruise
Hearts striker Liam Boyce insisted the Premiership new boys are headed in the right direction after they kicked off their Premier sports Cup campaign with victory at Peterhead. the Northern Ireland international scored his first goal of the season with a close-range finish, adding to Gary Mackaysteven’s earlier strike as the capital club coasted to victory at Balmoor. Boyce said: ‘When you play for Hearts, that pressure is on you to win every game. We couldn’t take it easy in pre-season. We wanted to win, even though we drew one game. We want to win trophies because every footballer wants silverware, so we know how important each game is at the start.’ Manager robbie Neilson went for a 3-4-3 formation and Boyce enjoyed leading the front three with Josh Ginnelly and Mackaysteven either side of him. He said: ‘Gaz was unreal today and Gino did well in his first game back in I don’t know how long (it was his first appearance since January 26). We know we don’t need to go looking for the ball to make stuff happen because the build-up is good. ‘We’ve been working on the 3-4-3 quite a bit. there are a couple of different formations we work on in training.’ Boyce also moved to play down an angry exchange with Peter Haring. He added: ‘It happens every ten minutes in a football match but you probably don’t hear it. ‘For five minutes, we were a bit sloppy on the ball, so you need those kind of moments to get everyone going again.’
