Lewis: Superb skill or reckless driving?
WHAT a lot of nasty comments about the best driver in the world. The problem with commentators is they are too young to remember that Britain’s Damon Hill was deprived of a world championship by Michael Schumacher deliberately taking him out. Lewis Hamilton has always won world championships by skill and never by foul play. Verstappen should have given way when he saw Hamilton in his mirror. When he can’t get his own way, Max sulks. If he wants to be the greatest, he has a lot to learn. Motor racing is by definition a dangerous sport, and it’s ridiculous that Verstappen feels everyone else should move over for him. What Hamilton went on to achieve is nothing short of phenomenal. So wind in your necks and support our own.

I’VE been a fan of F1 racing for many years and live just a couple of miles from Silverstone. In all the time I’ve followed it, I’ve never seen such irresponsibility as shown by Lewis Hamilton, the Silverstone stewards and the Mercedes team. Out of sheer desperation to keep the home crowd on his side, Hamilton risked endangering life, acted like a spoilt child and showed total disrespect for the sport with a 180 mph collision with his rival Max Verstappen. I will never again watch a F1 race as long as he is allowed to participate. If a similar incident had happened in football or rugby, there would have been an outcry, followed by a long suspension for the offending player.

IT’S a bit rich for F1 driver Max Verstappen and Red Bull boss Christian Horner to be making accusations against Lewis Hamilton, given Mad Max’s history and his team’s backing for the things he does. Verstappen is leading the championships thanks to his hard driving and take-no-prisoners style, but this time it didn’t come off. BARRIE WARREN, Bury, Gtr Manchester.
