THIS offbeat crime drama really hits its groove in the new, second episode. DI Strandhed (Nicola Walker) is investigat­ing a murder case with Viking overtones, while her daughter has been drinking vodka at school and has to accompany her to work. Some near-death moments add action to a near-perfect mix here.

ROMAN SAGA Britannia, 9pm, Sky Atlantic

GENERAL PLAUTIUS (David Morrissey, pictured) thinks he has druid leader Veran (Mackenzie Crook) over a barrel as Sky’s anarchic fantasy set in Roman-occupied Britain returns. Plautius reckons without the power of local magic, though, in a show that likes to undercut the pretension­s of its genre with dry one-liners.

ACTION THRILLER Brothers In Arms, 9pm, Film4

THE male bonding here goes to the extremes that can only be provided by a cocktail of testostero­ne and the stress hormone cortisol. Jai Courtney stars as the cop and U.S. Marine reserve who intends to break his halfbrothe­r (Nat Wolff) out of prison after he accidental­ly kills a man.

COMEDY CHAT Alan Davies: As Yet Untitled, 10pm, Dave

COMEDIAN Grace Campbell is the daughter of Alastair Campbell, and has stories to tell about her dad — chiefly, how he loves to ‘pull his trousers down’ in the street on holiday, as a joke for Grace and her mum. Lee Mack is also on tonight’s episode, but it’s hard to top that.

BEAUTIFULL­Y filmed coming-ofage story about a girl (Kenadi DelaCerna, pictured) making her way in the wilderness around the fictional Stark river in Michigan. A modern Huckleberr­y Finn.

BIG BOAT Building Giants: World’s Toughest Ice Ship, 10pm, More4

THE fact-filled series returns for a new run, and focuses on the constructi­on of the REV Ocean, the world’s largest fully fledged polar expedition vessel. The 600ft vessel is being built by thousands of workers at two shipyards during the frozen Norwegian winter.
