- By Matt Oliver

BEAUTY products, toiletries and snacks from Boots the chemist will be delivered to the doorstep in as little as 20 minutes under a new trial.

The High Street retailer has teamed up with Deliveroo to offer around 400 products through the food delivery firm’s app.

Shoppers will be able to order these items – including painkillers, vitamins and plasters, No7 make-up products, sandwiches, toiletries and baby essentials – from 14 areas across the country where the service is being piloted.

London, Edinburgh and Nottingham are among the cities where it will take place.

Boots is the latest firm to partner with Deliveroo, which has done deals with supermarkets such as Sainsbury’s and Morrisons, as well as rival health and beauty retailer Superdrug.

Paula Bobbett, director of Boots.com at Boots UK, said: ‘We are very excited about this new partnership with Deliveroo and have carefully selected over 400 products for its launch to help our customers get the things they need, when they need them.

‘It will be super handy for times when you need something urgently but can’t leave the house, like if you’re feeling unwell or are looking after your kids.

‘Our online business continues to grow and this partnership offers our customers ways to access our products quickly.’

During successive coronavirus lockdowns, Boots has reported a surge in digital sales as more customers stayed indoors.

That included an 85pc jump in sales on its website between in the year to March.

Carlo Mocci, chief business officer for Deliveroo in the UK and Ireland, said: ‘This partnership will mean more choice and selection for our consumers, delivered in as little as 20 minutes, and will create more work for riders across the UK.’

Deliveroo has seen a huge expansion in its offerings during the pandemic, with high street stores keen to continue offering customers its products.

The fast-growing area of rapid grocery deliveries is seen as a potentially lucrative source of income by analysts, although doubts remain about whether it can be made profitable.

Deliveroo has trumpeted its role as a ‘pure delivery’ firm, meaning it does not purchase any goods itself and only acts as the intermediary between customers and restaurants or retailers. The firm has a network of more than 50,000 delivery riders in the UK.
