CELEBRITIES BACKING NAIRN AFTER BLAZE

- Daily Mail Reporter

CELEBRITY chef Nick Nairn received an outpouring of support yesterday as he counted the cost of a fire which ripped through his restaurant.

Fire crews were called to Nick’s in Bridge of Allan, Stirlingshire, at 8.17pm on Saturday amid reports of a ‘well developed’ kitchen fire.

Pictures on social media showed smoke and flames pouring from the rear of the building. Six fire engines and a command support unit were sent to the scene.

Two people were treated for the effects of breathing in smoke but no-one was seriously injured. Yesterday

Mr Nairn, pictured, arrived at the restaurant to inspect the damage, while police and fire crews continued to examine the scene.

Dozens of well wishers including comedian Rory Bremner yesterday voiced their support.

Mr Bremner wrote on Twitter: ‘Thank God you’re all safe (it seems). I know you’ll be back and we’ll support you.’

Barbara Wallace added: ‘Dreadful news after a difficult year. Glad to hear everyone safe. Sending love to you and the team.’ Mr Nairn was unavailable for comment yesterday, but on Saturday said: ‘A deep fat fryer started bubbling over in the kitchen, while the restaurant was very busy. We unplugged it but it burst into flames so we threw a fire blanket over it, which didn’t work. We then used the two kitchen C02 canisters but when that failed, the fryer just exploded.’ He added: ‘We will come back stronger than ever.’
