Mother had vape ‘spiked on night out’

-

A MOTHER has told how she was left paralysed for two days and fearing for her life after having her vape spiked during a night out.

Emma Sugrue-Lawrence, 43, was left struggling to breathe and unable to control her body after the tip of her electronic cigarette was laced with a suspected synthetic drug.

She was approached by a man on a night out with friend Vicky Davies two weekends ago but declined his offer of a drink.

But Mrs Sugrue-Lawrence said later in the evening he reappeared in the smoking area at the Grain Store bar in Wolverhampton – so she thought he was with mutual friends he was standing beside.

The mother of three handed him her disposable e-cigarette to try and he took it into the toilet and re-emerged minutes later. Mrs Sugrue-Lawrence took the vape back and had a couple of puffs but almost immediately felt ill.

She said: ‘I couldn’t move, I couldn’t talk, I couldn’t open my eyes but I was aware of everything.’

Mrs Sugrue-Lawrence, from Telford, Shropshire, believes she was drugged with a synthetic cannabinoid chemical known as mamba spray. She contacted the venue but did not report the matter to police.

The Grain Store said it takes safety of its patrons ‘very seriously’.
