Prepared to inspire

FOR the first time in 35 years, the Scouts are to welcome children of four and five into the pack.

The Squirrel programme will see little ones going on outdoor adventures – with an emphasis on making new friends and learning skills – and was launched after research showed that children hardest hit by the pandemic have regressed in skills and learning.

I have often wondered how the past 18 months have affected children of that age and younger, isolated from their friends, kept at homes that may not have gardens, and unable to communicate just how they feel about it. Bravo to the Scouts for

getting stuck in and, as always, being prepared.
