May the force be with you Camilla

Duchess and the stormtrooper... wearing a kilt!

- By John Paul Breslin

‘Beaming with pride’

AS one of the Royal Family, the Duchess of Cornwall is used to seeing people in uniform.

But the galactic nature of this well-wisher, who greeted her dressed as a kilt-clad stormtrooper, took her by surprise.

The moment came as Camilla paid a visit to the Highland town of Nairn.

Camilla, who is known as the Duchess of Rothesay when in Scotland, was in the area to give charity Team Hamish Splashpad the royal seal of approval.

Sam Hey set up the charity with his wife Susan and daughter Lily to create play areas around their home town in memory of the couple’s eight-year-old son Hamish, who died from cancer in 2017.

Mrs Hey never got to see Hamish’s Splashpad completed, as she lost her own battle with cancer last year.

But Mr Hey and Lily were delighted to welcome Camilla to the play area by the beach and explain more about their work.

Mr Hey was also presented with a British Empire Medal by the Lord Lieutenant of Nairnshire, George Asher, while Lily accepted her mother’s medal posthumously.

Mr Hey said he knew his son and wife would be watching over the ceremony, ‘beaming with pride’.

During her trip, Camilla also visited Nairn Community Centre, which is currently home to the Nairn Book and Arts Festival.

She later visited Inverness, where she spoke to volunteers at Maggie’s cancer support centre.

Camilla has been president of Maggie’s since 2008 and was making her inaugural visit to the centre.
