DOMINIC RAAB Lost coveted role of Foreign Secretary after widespread condemnati­on over his handling of the Afghanista­n crisis, having been on holiday as Kabul fell. He remains in Cabinet, however, as Justice Secretary – and Deputy Prime Minister.

LIZ TRUSS Replaces Mr Raab as Foreign Secretary. Her first trip will see her accompany the PM at the UN General Assembly in New York. Will also take over efforts to ensure allies left behind in Afghanista­n are able to escape from the Taliban.

NADHIM ZAHAWI The new Education Secretary, having served as the minister for vaccinatio­ns. Will aim to recover parents’ confidence – and must resolve how to handle next year’s exams.

MICHAEL GOVE Promoted to Housing Secretary – with extra responsibi­lities to promote the PM’s ‘levelling up’ agenda.

OLIVER DOWDEN Moved from Culture Secretary to Tory chairman. Tasked with maintainin­g the Red Wall of former Labour seats at the next election
