WHAT TO WEAR THIS WEEKEND
I’M FEELING FRUITY
LIKE lots of fashion editors, I dress in a pretty understated way. I swear by my capsule wardrobe, a selection of classic pieces that work together. It’s stylish but simple and just occasionally I add some fun with a floral print or two.
But even floral prints can feel a little predictable, so, this year, to brighten up my autumn wardrobe I’ve gone a little fruity. Banish all thoughts of Carmen Miranda, this is fruit done fashionably, for this season designers have turned their attention to oranges and lemons — and berries too — to carry a little cheer into the cooler days.
COOL CITRUS A-PEEL
PHOEBE PHILO’S playful banana prints on Chloe’s spring/summer 2004 collection put fruit firmly on the fashion agenda and they’ve been indispensable ever since. They’re more sophisticated these days; tropical bananas and pineapples have been replaced with stylish winter citrus and seasonal berries.
STYLISH, SUSTAINABLE
REFORMATION, the trendy LAbased clothing label, which was focused on sustainability before the rest of the fashion industry had even heard of it, has made the trend its own. They have beautifully illustrated oranges on black-backed mini dresses, maxi dresses and tiesleeve tops. Their berry print is beautiful too, as are the tomatoes.
A PEACHIER PRICE
WHISTLES are bringing a more affordable selection to the High Street. The skirt I’m wearing here is also available in dress form and they have a fun cream shirt with a fruit print (£35, whistles.com). I’ve dressed mine down with a simple blue shirt and black pumps — key pieces from my capsule wardrobe.
