‘So inhumane...you wouldn’t leave a dog lying like that’

-

FRAIL Lillian Briggs lay in pain on her kitchen floor for nearly eight hours.

The 8 -year-old, who broke her hip in a fall at her Edinburgh home on Monday, could not be given painkillers in case she required surgery.

After finding the OAP, who has Parkinson’s, on the floor, the family phoned 999 at about 1pm. An ambulance arrived at around 8.45pm.

Her son Robert Ewing, 0, said: ‘It is inhumane to leave someone lying like that. You wouldn’t do it to a dog. Something has got to be done.’ Mrs Briggs was taken to hospital and underwent a four-hour operation.

At Holyrood yesterday, Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar said: ‘How many more Lilian Briggs must happen in the next week before we take urgent action?’ The ambulance service has apologised for the delay.
