Wells quits ‘for health reasons’

-

ONE of the highest-profile Scottish Conservative MSPs has quit the front bench for ‘personal health reasons’.

Annie Wells stepped down from her role as health spokesman.

She will be replaced as Health Secretary Humza Yousaf’s main rival by serving GP Dr Sandesh Gulhane.

Despite leaving the front bench, Miss Wells will continue as a Glasgow MSP.

Her medical condition has not been disclosed but it is not expected to prevent her from attending parliament on a consistent basis.

Scottish Conservative leader Douglas Ross thanked Miss Wells for ‘the huge amount of effort she has put in’ and ‘all the tremendous work that she continues to do for the party’. Dr Gulhane said: ‘It’s a huge honour to be promoted.’
