I WAS stationed at RAF Yatesbury on Salisbury Plain in the winter. Because it was so cold and hut heating was minimal, we were sent to the stores to collect two extra blankets. The lad in front of me said: ‘Winterbottom.’ ‘Can’t help it,’ replied the Corporal. ‘Next please.’
