It’s high time to embrace freedom

-

WHY does Prime Minister Boris Johnson take so much notice of the doom and gloom scientists and their dire predictions for Covid this winter? Most adults and the vulnerable have been double vaccinated and booster doses are promised by Christmas. This virus is never going away, but we have to accept that and learn to live with it. I agree with Professor Angus Dalgleish, professor of oncology at a London teaching hospital, that we simply can’t contemplate returning to severe restrictions (Mail) or even — heaven forbid — another lockdown. We have been leading relatively normal lives for some time, with shops, pubs and restaurants open, and cinemas and theatres at full capacity. This is creating so much enjoyment for people, never mind all those involved in these businesses being able to work again after so long. Returning to severe restrictions, especially in the dark days of winter, will have a terrible effect on mental health. Come on, Boris, give us something positive to look forward to.

I AGREE with Professor Angus Dalgleish: get on with our lives and stop hiding behind closed doors.

APART from the excellent vaccination roll-out, the Government has made many mistakes during the Covid crisis. It is already discussing restrictions this winter, such as a return to compulsory mask wearing and working from home. If the doom squad get their way, then this situation will go on for ever. Boris needs to allow us to make a personal choice about how we wish to live our lives and let us get back to normal.

WELL done, Boris Johnson, for preparing for coronavirus and flu this winter. This is a positive step forward and the actions of a Prime Minister one step ahead of the game. Any sensible leader must be ready to tighten rules at a moment’s notice because we all saw how fast the Delta variant spread.

GEOFFREY BROOKING, Havant, Hants.

PLAN B to be implemented if the NHS becomes overwhelmed? Plan B it is then, because the NHS is overwhelmed every winter. terry Coates, Birmingham.

I’VE come up with a new Plan C: lock down the irresponsible vaccine refuseniks while the rest of us enjoy the freedoms promised us!

C. LeWIs, rhondda Cynon taf.
