Ayr breach could give Ibrox colts a reprieve

- By MARK WILSON

RANGERS B may get a reprieve in the SPFL Trust Trophy after Ayr United were charged with fielding two ineligible players in a 3-0 second-round victory over the Ibrox colts. The Championship side won the match earlier this week but now face a disciplinary hearing following the introduction of two late substitutes. An SPFL statement read: ‘Ayr United have confirmed that they included Kinlay Bilham and Alex Jeanes in Tuesday’s SPFL Trust Trophy secondround tie against Rangers B at the C&G Systems Stadium when they were on temporary transfers to West of Scotland League clubs Irvine Meadow XI and Girvan respectively. Both players entered the field as 81st-minute substitutes in a match Ayr United won 3-0. ‘As a result, Ayr United have been charged with breaching SPFL Rules and Regulations and the SPFL has arranged a disciplinary hearing for Monday, September 20.’ In July, Kilmarnock’s Premier Sports Cup win over East Kilbride was overturned after they fielded an ineligible player. Daniel Armstrong should have been serving a suspension and his introduction from the bench led to the SPFL awarding East Kilbride a 3-0 win.
