Finally, the PM admits he does have six children

‘It’s a lot of work, but I love it’

the Prime Minister finally confirmed yesterday that he has six children – after years of evading questions about his complex private life.

the 57-year-old, who’s expecting his seventh child with third wife Carrie, 33, also said he is a hands-on dad to their one-year-old son, Wilfred.

Mr Johnson said he ‘changes a lot of nappies’ and answered ‘yes’ when asked by an NBC interviewer in the US if he was a father of six.

Asked what it was like raising a young child while running the country, he said: ‘It’s fantastic.

‘It’s a lot of work. It’s a lot of work, I’ll tell you that much, but I love it, I absolutely love it and I want you to know I change a lot of nappies.’

there has long been confusion about the exact number of children Mr Johnson has fathered.

he has four children with his ex-wife Marina Wheeler, 57 – Lara Lettice, 28, Milo Arthur, 26, Cassia Peaches, 24, and theodore Apollo, 22.

he also has a daughter, Stephanie, born in 2009, as a result of an affair with art consultant helen Macintyre.

he originally denied paternity and even sought an injunction in 2013 to prevent the girl’s existence being disclosed during a court battle.

however last year, the PM’s father, Stanley, said he had spoken to Stephanie on video calls and was hoping to meet her when the coronavirus lockdown ended.

Last week Stephanie was named in a times newspaper notice as one of the many grandchildren of the PM’s late mother, the artist Charlotte Johnson Wahl who died aged 79.

Mr Johnson has repeatedly said he would not discuss his private life, and during the 2019 election campaign said he would not talk about his children.

his youngest child, Wilfred Lawrie Nicholas, was born in April last year, and was named after the doctors who saved the PM’s life during his battle with Covid weeks earlier.

Mrs Johnson announced in July that she is pregnant again with a poignant message about a previous miscarriage.

the former Conservative Party communications director, who said the new baby would be arriving ‘this Christmas’, said she wanted to share the personal news about her miscarriage to ‘help others’.

She added: ‘Fertility issues can be really hard for many people, particularly when on platforms like Instagram it can look like everything is only ever going well.

‘I found it a real comfort to hear from people who had also experienced loss so I hope that in some very small way sharing this might help others too.’
