Power failure

-

OUR energy policy is beyond stupid. The UK Government knows there is fracked gas available in England but won’t extract it. The scottish Government prides itself on not wanting to know if we have this gas. Both are happy to see consumers suffer while income support subsidies to renewable energy investors total around £10billion a year and we carry a green tax of 12 per cent on our bills.

For years we have been bombarded with propaganda about climate change for which the human race is held responsible, and so must abandon secure sources of energy – a peculiar belief held only by Western governments. China, India, and many African states are still coal-firing their economies.

Human industrial and commercial activity has increased the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere to the point where we alone account for 0.00065 per cent of it. Are we seriously to believe that this outweighs the vast natural movements of the Earth’s crust, deep ocean currents and the other natural phenomena responsible for the many changes in climate?

The biggest lie fed to the public is that there is a scientific consensus on humans being the cause of climate change. A large number of eminent scientists do not agree but they have been effectively silenced from mainstream broadcasting.

I WORKED in the oil and gas industries for over 30 years – 13 of them in the Middle East, Asia and Africa. What I would like to know is what happened to all the money that North sea oil generated – and by that, I mean Government income from the industry?

surely after 46 years, the UK should have been self-sufficient when it comes to energy – and with the profits we should have been at the forefront of clean energy production.

Let’s continue with oil production, go ahead with green energy expansion, and move forward.

IAN P. OLIVER, aberdeen.
