Inquiry after man dies of overdose in custody suite opened ‘too soon’
A MAN died of a drugs overdose in a ‘prematurely’ opened custody suite where cell checks were inadequate, an inquiry has heard.
A police report into the death of Warren Fenty, 20, described the cell checking routine on the night he died as ‘lackadaisical’.
Mr Fenty died in his cell at Kittybrewster custody suite, Aberdeen, in June 2014, hours after being checked in following treatment for a drug overdose.
An inquiry into his death yesterday at Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard an extract from a senior police officer’s report, which criticised both the supervision Mr Fenty received and the sharing of information surrounding his medical treatment.
The inquiry, before Sheriff Morag McLaughlin, continues.
