Mystery of the memory loss ‘English’ woman solved

-

A WOMAN with ‘perfect English’ but no memory of who she was or how she washed up on a Croatian island has been identified.

She had baffled authorities when she was rescued, bloodied and bruised, from a remote outcrop on Krk ten days ago.

But the mystery was solved yesterday after she was identified as Daniela Adamcova, a former Slovakian jewellery designer, who moved to the US in 1984, when she was 19.

Pieces by Miss Adamcova, pictured, were worn by Barbra Streisand, Brigitte Bardot and Diana Ross. But the 57-yearold, known as Danka, fell on hard times and ended up homeless.

Croatian police confirmed her identity after receiving reports from around the world following an appeal.

Miss Adamcova said that she had previously lived in Birmingham, waiter Stiv Svilicic told Croatian TV, and on September 11 had paid to be taken to a remote fisherman’s house on the island.

She was spotted crying – in an area visited by bears and wild boar – by a fisherman a day later. Rescuers used 4x4 vehicles and walked two miles over jagged rocks to reach her.

Miss Adamcova remains in hospital, but Croatian police described her condition as ‘stable’ and said social services will take over once she is discharged.
