THOU SHALT NOT BLOCK THE M25!

- By Josh White

A CHURCH of England diocese last night criticised members of the clergy who took part in the M25 eco-protests.

The Diocese of Oxford said Tim Hewes, 71, Sue Parfitt, 79, Mark Coleman, 62, and Martin Newell, 54, had ‘frustrated many people’ by blocking the motorway. Rev Parfitt and Rev Coleman are both retired. Rev Hewes has ‘permission to officiate’ in the diocese. Father Newell is a Roman Catholic priest based in Birmingham.

Last night, Government lawyers were examining whether to apply for sweeping powers that could see protesters locked up if they set foot on the trunk roads.

It comes after an interim injunction banned them from the M25. Breaching it could lead to up to two years in jail. An application for a full injunction will be heard next month.
