Gordon’s transfer regret

- ALAN DOUGLAS

RON GORDON admits Hibs need to learn from a disappointing transfer deadline day — and hinted that sporting director Graeme Mathie was heading for the exit. Head coach Jack Ross made it clear that he was left frustrated by the club’s failure to land key target Jamie McGrath from St Mirren at the end of last month, with Scott Allan and Drey Wright proposed as makeweights in the deal. That has led to widespread reports that Mathie, who oversees the club’s recruitment, had lost his job at Easter Road. Asked if the club would continue to have a sporting director moving forward, club owner Gordon replied: ‘We haven’t changed anything yet, so we are still looking at that.’ On the club’s deadline-day dealings, he added: ‘We had a bit of a scramble at the end and it was a little bit difficult. ‘Unfortunately, we left a lot of these things a little too late.’ Gordon, meanwhile, admits he is open to the idea of introducing a safe standing section at Easter Road. He added: ‘We have that on the list, so the answer to that is yes.’
